Scripture to Set the Tone
“And you have perseverance and have endured for My name’s sake, and have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore, remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first.”
Revelation 2:3–5 (NASB)
Revelation 2 calls us to “return to our first love” — which applies both to our relationship with God and to our marriage.
How does your love for God shape the way you treat your spouse? How can humility and grace enhance your connection?
“Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.”
2 Corinthians 13:11–13 (ESV)
What do these verses mean to you, and how do they apply to your relationship and rekindling your first love for each other?
Key Concepts and Principles
The Marriage Triangle
Something amazing happens when God is at the top of the triangle and each of you is at a bottom corner. As you both pursue God and move closer to Him, you’re being drawn closer to each other, as His qualities are reflected in your marriage.

The Three Steps of Renewal
- Remember — Reflect on the love and passion you shared in the beginning.
- Repent — Acknowledge any ways you may have drifted, and seek forgiveness.
- Return — Recommit to the acts of love and kindness that first built your relationship.
Practical Steps
Explore the importance of intrigue. Relationships thrive when we maintain curiosity and appreciation for one another. Share with each other as you think back to the early days of your relationship — what made your spouse stand out? How did their uniqueness captivate you?
God’s desire for first love. Just as God calls us to return to our first love with Him, He invites us to renew our love and passion for our spouse. As our love for God grows, it naturally deepens our connection with our partner, creating a healthier, more resilient marriage. Apply the Three Steps of Renewal to your relationship with God.
